Scammer Script / Description
Scammers use pop-ups claiming to be from Microsoft, warning not to restart the computer. They ask the user to call a number, then gain remote access to the computer. They claim to find "problems" and try to charge hundreds of dollars for "fixes" or "Microsoft License renewal for network security coverage." They may become annoyed and insulting if the user refuses to pay. Another variation involves claiming the computer and bank account were hacked by a "Chinese p*rn site" and demanding gift cards for payment. They may also claim an $11,000 charge from overseas for "bet online" and instruct the user to buy gift cards to prevent it.
