DFPI — Victim narrative (California)
The victim met “Kathy Lina” on a dating site and they began talking and texting for about a month, during which time she kept showing the victim how much money she was making with a certain crypto investment site. Eventually, the victim deposited money. The victim reported that all communication with the website was through a chatbot help window. He believed he had a balance of more than $16,000, but he tried to withdraw some of the money he was told he had violated company rules. He got a message saying the only way he could withdraw was to deposit an amount equal to what he had in the accoun
