DFPI — Victim narrative (California)
A Californian reports their family member was contacted by someone on WhatsApp who claimed to be interested in professional services. Over time, the WhatsApp contact cultivated a friendship with the victim and eventually persuaded them to invest in crypto assets. The “friend” showed the victim how to purchase crypto assets and transfer them to the crypto asset trading platform Taurus Chain. The victim believed their trades of crypto assets were earning substantial returns. But when the victim tried to withdraw funds from their account, Taurus Chain demanded they first pay a “VAT tax” of $200,0
