DFPI — Victim narrative (California)
A California resident reports meeting an individual on an online dating app who introduced them to crypto trading website, https://www.atomexc.com/. The resident deposited money onto https://www.atomexc.com/ and believed that the balance in their account was growing. But when the victim tried to withdraw funds, the platform demanded they pay a “tax”. The resident paid the “tax” but then the platform demanded an additional “fee” of $16,000 to complete the withdrawal. The victim did not pay the additional fee and has been unable to recover their funds from the platform. The website is no longer
