DFPI — Victim narrative (California)
A California resident reports using a cryptocurrency exchange operating on the website Gicb.bio. The resident transferred funds from their bank into Bitcoin and sent them to the website, believing they were funding an account on the exchange. After a while, the victim believed their account had grown in value. But when they tried to withdraw funds, customer service representatives from the website demanded the victim pay a ‘capital tax’ before they could withdraw. The victim was unable to recover their money, and the website is no longer operational.
