A California resident reports they met someone online via the instant messaging service Telegram who recommended they invest in crypto asset mining on the website ethernet035.com. To facilitate the investment, the California resident was told to open a crypto asset wallet on what they believed was a legitimate application. The victim then received an email asking them to verify their new account by making two deposits, first of $500 and then of $1,200. Within minutes, the money was withdrawn from the account and the victim could not recover it. The website is no longer operational.
