DFPI — Victim narrative (California)
A California resident reports on their experience with the crypto asset trading platform operating at bitpros.app. The resident believed they were earning profits trading in variouscryptoassets on the platform. But when the resident attempted to withdraw some of their funds, the platform demanded they pay $5,000 in “taxes” on their earnings. The resident paid, but then the platform demanded $2,000 as an “upgrade fee”. Again, the resident paid, but has not been able to recover their money, and the website is no longer operational. All told, the resident lost more $17,000.
